Oz Farm is seeking a part-time Grounds Keeper.
Job Summary
The Grounds Keeper implements all aspects of grounds care and upkeep. This position reports to the Director of Operations.
Experience, Qualifications, and Skills
Ability to perform work in all types of weather conditions
Ability to work in environment where there is high exposure to dust, pollens, and other allergens
Ability to operate and upkeep necessary equipment, such as lawn mowers, weed whackers, chain saws, chipper and log splitter
Have a good working knowledge about plants including native, invasive, and climate appropriate plants
Excellent interpersonal skills to involve communication skills, time management, prioritizing, and delegating
Ability to be self-motivated and self-managing and to work both independently and collectively
Valid California driver’s license with clean CA DMV record
Passion for Oz Farm’s mission and work to educate apprentices, grow food for our community, and provide a beautiful space for retreats and events
Primary Responsibilities of the Job
Mow and weed whack lawns, fence lines, and building parameters
Water lawns and landscaping
Cultivate, prune, plant, transplant, fertilize, mulch, and water ground cover, flowering plants, and trees
Chainsaw trees and limbs that are impacting the farm and retreat or coordinate with arborist as emergencies dictate
Maintain and repair equipment and small engine machines
Design, install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems when appropriate
Be on call to handle any relevant emergencies
Coordinate with retreats and events for rental preparation
To be flexible with the tasks required for the business, depending on the needs of Oz Farm, which may include tasks other than those related strictly to Job Description
Physical Requirements of the Job
1. Ability to withstand extensive standing, stopping, squatting, pushing, pulling, and lifting of up to 50lbs
2. Drive and operate farm vehicles and small machines
3. Ability to lift up to 60lbs
4. Handle use of tools and machinery in a safe and responsible way
Compensation
1. The hourly pay of this position is commensurate with experience
